“Character is a like a tree, and reputation is like a shadow. We think of it as a shadow; the tree is the real thing ” – ABRAHAM LINCOLN

Abraham Lincoln once said,

“Character is a like a tree, and reputation is like a shadow. We think of it as a shadow; the tree is the real thing “.

ABRAHAM LINCOLN

It states that a person’s personality defines who and what they are. Their reputation, however, may differ depending on your point of view. Like the shadow, the reputation cannot always be the same length depending on the position of the sun or light on the person. It can and will change over time. However, the individual’s personality remains consistent.

What Abraham Lincoln Means

A shadow is something that is inconsistent. It varies depending on where the light is coming from, where it is located, and how close you are to the object.

The object to which the shadow belongs, on the other hand, remains constant. It never changes no matter how you look at it. In this case, a tree is used to personify a character (it can be any object). As a result, it implies that character is a constant in your life, that it defines you, your true self, and your nature. It is uncontrollable by anyone else on the planet. Because reputation is the label that others place on you, it serves as a shadow in this situation.
